No. 12 The Importance of Beauty in Business
Once upon a Denver happy hour…
I met a friend at a place on South Broadway called Beatrice + Woodsley. I’d never been + upon entering, immediately felt like I’d walked into a storybook. There were aspen trees whimsically dividing tables, impossibly plush seating + a hand washing experience so unique, I felt like a kid at an interactive museum display. There was a special quality about the place that warmly invited guests into an immersive environment… all for cocktails + dinner. I’m sure you’ve been to a place like this (hello, Disney World), where some intangible, magical quality permeates every space + you come away just liking it all.
This, my friends, is the power of branding.
You see, those intangible qualities boil down to two elements: a carefully crafted brand identity + a high value for beauty. No matter what the business is, when those two elements combine, creativity is limitless + the guest/client experience is elevated. If you’re not sure what a brand identity is, check out this post to read about it. It’s what I do here at Creativist Co. + it’s the absolute joy of my job to understand a vision + visually translate it for clients. Long before there’s a brand identity to create, the business owner’s value for beauty will begin, carry + influence the end result.
Valuing beauty is not the same as valuing the expensive…
but rather a recognition that quality + experience matter. It is a belief system where creating things, experiences + places with beauty is not only enjoyable, but necessary for the human soul. Too often, beauty is relegated to the bottom tier of importance, both personally + professionally, resulting in often drab environments or run-of-the-mill processes. When we value beauty, what we love seems to float to the top of our awareness + there’s a good chance you’ll create something special.
Investing + believing in beauty opens an entirely new perspective on creating + running a business.
Mundane, necessary items suddenly have the opportunity to be carefully curated. The guest experience becomes a playground of creativity + inspires a restaurant owner to figure out how to implement aspen trees in the design. Beauty has a foundational place in branding + can inspire your business to explore it’s visual originality.
So… how do you do this?
Be encouraged; it’s easier than you might think. Why not try to look at the day to day operations of your business + consider where your clients might enjoy a break with the norm? It can be as complex as implementing a new, cohesive brand identity or as simple as switching out the soaps in the bathrooms. No matter what you choose, simply placing more of your attention on beauty changes the way you serve your clients + that is always an exciting endeavor.
Still stuck?
If this all sounds intimidating or too big, I’m here to help you with that. Translating the heart of a vision into beautiful, visual communication is what I do. I’m never too busy to meet for a chat. Simply reach out to hello@creativistco.com + we’ll get something in the calendar. As always…
